Semliki Safari Lodge... Semliki Safari Lodge is situated in the Semliki Valley Wildlife Reserve (formerly called Toro Game Reserve), in the Western Rift Valley. It is the only accommodation in over 500 square kilometres of wilderness, offering a truly private experience. Built out of local materials, the lodge has a feeling of traditional rustic without losing that all-important comfort. |
The Classic, Rustic Experience
Of Semliki Safari Lodge
You
will stay in large canvas tents with permanent thatched roofs. Each
tent includes en-suite bathrooms with running water and private
verandas with a stunning panoramic view.
Imagine lying on a hand carved four poster bed draped in muslin.
Persian carpets and other soft touches ensure that this is far from
roughing it in the bush. We have always taken comfort seriously.
Sofas are piled with cushions, there is plenty of lounging space,
loads of books to read, warm muffins brought to you in bed with
your morning tea or coffee, and soft fleecy blankets on the beds.
The food at the lodge has often been referred to as the 'Best food
in Uganda' - everything is home-made; from the bread baked daily,
to the soups, the relishes and chutneys.
While at the lodge you may choose to do nothing more that relax
by the pool which overlooks the Blue Mountains of the Congo, or
partake in a number of activities that we run from the lodge:
| | Chimpanzee tracking | | Guided walks and hiking | | | Jungle walks | | Fishing | | | Bird watching | | Spotlit night drives | | | Game drives | | Visits to local communities |
In conjunction with Indiana University, we are running a chimpanzee
research project in Semliki. The habitat is ideal to collect data
which will help to further understand the evolution of man, particularly
'bipedalism' - walking on two feet.
The research is in the early stages, but guests at Semliki Safari
Lodge are able to accompany the resident researchers into the forest
to assist with the habituation and research of these fascinating
creatures.
Awards & Memberships
Semliki Safari Lodge is a member of Classic
Safari Camps of Africa - a handpicked collection of the most
reputable owner-operated safari camps and lodges in some of the
most beautiful wildlife areas in Africa. We are the only
lodge in Uganda to be included in the collection.
Also,we have been awarded the special mention award at the Uganda Investment Authority 'Investor of the Year' award for "Outstanding Contribution to Uganda's Conservation". |
 |
| Semliki Conservation | A big part of this lodge project is the conservation of the Semliki Valley Wildlife Reserve. When we first arrived here in 1992, the park had been so badly poached that it faced losing its status as a park.
Now, with persistent efforts with staff, the Wildlife Authority and the surrounding communities, the Reserve is healing. Guests can take comfort in the knowledge that their very presence in the Reserve is helping to protect and heal one of Uganda's first protected areas.
